Bakrie Brothers back in the black
After falling into the red in 2004, PT Bakrie and Brothers Tbk returned to the black in 2005 with net earnings and operating profits of Rp 267 billion (about US$28.8 million) and Rp 223 billion, respectively.

Corporate secretary Juliandus Tobing said in Jakarta on Monday that Bakrie and Brothers, which suffered a net loss of about Rp 267 billion and a deficit of about Rp 73 billion in its operating profit in 2004, booked a significant increase in earnings in 2005 partly due to a better-than-expected performance in the company's infrastructure division.

Operasi Penertiban, 20 Perokok Ditahan
JAKARTA, RABU - Operasi penertiban para perokok di Kawasan Dilarang Merokok (KDM) yang  dilaksanakan petugas BPLHD (Badan Pengelola Lingkungan Hidup Daerah) di Terminal Blok M dan kawasan perkantoran Victoria sampai siang ini, Rabu (19/11), menahan sekitar 20 orang perokok. Menurut wakil kepala terminal Blok M, A. Wani Zaroni, usaha ini sangat positif untuk menertibkan para perokok yang ada di terminal Blok M. "Karena sebelumnya bila ditegur oleh para petugas terminal mereka cenderung cuek. Namun dengan adanya sosialisasi ini saya berharap kesadaran untuk tidak merokok di sembarang tempat dapat terwujud," ujarnya di Jakarta, Rabu (19/11).

Aburizal still politically powerful, experts say

Dollar Menguat, Transaksi Valas di BBJ Melonjak
JAKARTA, KAMIS  -  Penguatan nilai tukar dollar Amerika Serikat (AS) memang bikin pusing. Kemarin, dolar AS kembali menguat terhadap rupiah. Bumi deal remains fragile, Bakrie warns
Publicly listed investment firm PT Bakrie & Brothers, the flagship of the influential Bakrie family, said Monday its recent deal to sell a stake in its coal company was still mired in uncertainty and could still fail.

In its statement to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Monday, Bakrie & Brothers said the deal to sell 35 percent of its stake in PT Bumi Resources to Northstar Pacific could come up empty if Bumi ’s share price kept declining.

Jerry Yang Mundur dari CEO Yahoo
NEW YORK, SENIN - Yahoo mengumumkan pada Senin (17/11) bahwa "co-founder" Jerry Yang, yang menolak tawaran pengambilalihan dari Microsoft pada awal tahun ini, mundur sebagai kepala eksekutif di perusahaan pelopor internet itu.

    
"Jerry dan Dewan sedang melakukan pembicaraan tentang waktu suksesi, dan kami semua setuju bahwa sekarang merupakan saat yang tepat untuk melakukan transisi kepada CEO baru yang dapat membawa perusahaan ke level berikutnya," kata ketua Yahoo Roy Bostock.

AGO grills Yusril in website graft
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) questioned Tuesday former Justice and Human Rights Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra about his approval of a website project during his tenure which allegedly had set up an embezzlement scheme.

"We are questioning him about why he signed the contract and on what grounds he approved the project," Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Marwan Effendy told journalists at his office.

Police detain suspect in bank rumor case
The National Police announced Sunday the detention of a stock market broker for allegedly spreading rumors by email about a deposit run on certain banks, which led to brief panic and put the country ’s banking health into question.
The trader, Erick Jazier Adriansjah of PT Bahana Securities, has been declared a suspect for defamation and spreading false information, and was taken into custody on Sunday, said Sr. Comr. Petrus Golose, head of the National Police’s cyber crime unit.
